While I admire some of these booktok girlies, I am not fully committed to the life, I have inconsistent goblin brain that will not allow it.
1. I will not be annotating
It looks so pretty when you do it but I cannot be fucked.
Literally, cannot be asked, or I would lose interest halfway. I don’t have the consistency, I don’t have enough interesting things to say, or I would get too into the book and not do the annotation.
It will never be me. However much I want the aesthetic, I’m just not that girl.
2. I will not be adding colour coded tabs
One, they piss me off when I’m reading.
Two, same reason as above, I cannot be fucked.
Three, I would forget to do it halfway.
Oh, I know how satisfying it is to look at the end and it’s really cool when you can see at a glance whatever specific thing you wanted to highlight but it’s just not for me.
Also, I don’t have the storage space for books with little tabby Mohawks, we are at capacity.
3. I will not be keeping a reading journal
I’ve tried so many times. I bought pretty purpose built journals, I drew lines in pretty notebooks with sections to fill out, I bought the coloured pens and highlighters.
The problem is, I have zero consistency. It always dies within a few months. The best solution I’ve found is using my phones notes app, with inconsistent capitalisation and I forget to up date that half the time. Thank fuck for Storygraph, which has somehow been the only solution for my stupid little brain.
Plus, I guess I review them on this blog… So I’ve really gone the long way round for a solution.
4. I will not be making a pretty little TBR basket/ cart separate to my book shelves.
My TBR? You’re looking at it on the wall already. It’s the entire fucking thing.
Plus, who has the space? I live in a shoebox.
5. I will not have more than four books on the go at once
Even four is a stretch, two of them will always be audios – one of which is an extremely easy listen. And I can still barely cope.
How the fuck do you do that? And why aren’t you finishing the fucking books? That would infuriate me.
What bookish culture things have you rejected? I just want to read tbh and hoard them like a little dragon.
