The Reluctant Vampire Queen

The 72nd book I read this year was the Reluctant Vampire Queen by Jo Simmons.

A Vague Summary

Mo is your average 13 year old with everyday 13 year old worries, that is until I mysterious figure either steps out from a bush… or materialises from thin air, Mo can’t quite be sure, and announces she is the chosen one to be the next vampire queen of England. The only problem is, as a vegetarian, Mo doesn’t fancy the whole blood drinking thing, or being immortal but the very handsome familiar she gets in the bargain is definitely a tick in the pro column, plus, the vampire who chose her threaten to kill her whole family. Mo decides the best plan is to fake the whole ‘being turned into a vampire thing’, then she can continue going to school by day and being the vampire queen by night. the only problem is, this turns out to be a lot harder than she thought.

My thoughts

This was a fun, cute, little book. It was definitely a bit more middle grade/ young YA than I thought it was when I bought it, which doesn’t take away from the story because that’s my bad but it definitely wasn’t for me as a result! Still, the story is a fun read and if you are the right age for it, I would say give it a read.
