A sort of summary
Miselfoe
This novella is set between books 1 and 2. Now demons are free, a Fox demon has moved into the territory next door to Ruby’s village and cursed her father for stealing some of the ore from his land. The curse has the unfortunate side affect of turning all their weapon into foul mouthed, thirsty degenerates and nobody wants to buy an axe that swears at you while you’re using it. So Ruby sets off to try to rectify her father’s mistake, with a particularly dirty sword called Alexis (self-named), and while the cakes and wine she bought him isn’t enough for an apology, the Fox agrees to strike a bargain with her instead. She must pretend to be his mate for one week, go to a party with a bunch of other demons and make them think he is wildly in love, so that he can secure his new territory. Ruby decides she could do with a week of drinking and fucking, so why not? What harm could it do? It does help that he is very attractive and… talented.
A Bump in Boohail
This novella is set between book 2 and 3 in the series. Boohail is celebrating Samhain, the spookiest night of the year and their biggest festival. Cinnamon is in full prep mode supplying food for the festival but she has two problems: her dragon husband suddenly started digging a giant hole in her garden and hasn’t come out in ages and her brother scares the shit out of her (literally) almost every Samhain. When her friends finally get tired of her moping they send her off down the hole so she can have a talk with her husband but while she is down there she gets chased by a spooky deer antlered creature. Cinnamon finally find her husband and asks him what the fuck is going on with the lavish dungeon he’s made in her backyard and why he scared the crap out of her, it turns out he’s only guilty of one of those things. So they cook up a plan to get revenge on Cinnamon’s brother.
My thoughts
I loved Alexis the sword! I’m convinced that entire novella was only written to introduce her character because she then appears in the next two novels. A Bump in Boohail is a fun little glimpse into Fallon and Cinnamon’s life after their novel. I’ve been pretty biased in all my reviews of this series because I unapologetically enjoy them, they are good, spicy, fantasy fun.
