My 58th read of the year was Weather Girl by Rachel Lyn Solomon. I recently read her other book, The Ex Talk, which I really enjoyed so I bought a couple more of her books to try.
A summary attempt
Being a weather girl at her dream tv station, under the boss that inspired her to pursue a career as a meteorologist has turned out to be not all that great, due to said boss co-running the T.V station with her ex husband, putting the entire station in the middle of their spats. At the disastrous Christmas-do, Ari bonds with the sports newscaster, Russell, over their disastrous bosses. They drunkenly scheme to get their bosses back together, on the theory that some of the spark behind their ferocious arguments is because they aren’t yet done with each other.
After another tense morning at the station, they decide to follow through on their drunken scheme. Finding ways to push their bosses together and remind them about why they fell in love the first time around. Except, through their scheming Ali finds herself growing closer to Russell, being more honest with him than she’s ever been before. Except, Ali’s always held a little bit of herself back from her partners, plastering over her depression with ‘sunshine Ari’ instead. This time though, she’s terrified to discover she doesn’t want to do that with Russ.
My thoughts
This book is an enjoyable read but I did not love it as much as The Ex Talk. I liked elements such as Ari’s depression and her working through opening up to someone, as well as both our MC’s being Jewish and Jewish traditions being part of the narrative, as this is something I haven’t seen much in romance. However, it was a lot to pack into a short romance book and some of their ‘journey’ felt a little shallow in places? This was a good book, I just wouldn’t put it up with some of the romances I’ve read this year that I really enjoyed. It would make a very good holiday read.
