The Hunting Moon

My 81st read of the year was The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard, the second book in the Luminaries series. The third book in the series just came out so I wanted to finish this in time!

Read my review for book 1 ‘The Luminaries’ here, as this is a review for book 2 there may be spoilers for first book so don’t go any further if that’s a problem.

An attempt at summarising the plot

After the events of her hunter trials, Winnie is being treated like a hero but she doesn’t want to be. It feels wrong and Winnie finds herself questioning things about the Luminaries that she never wondered about before. She’s trying to follow the clues her father left behind and when Jay catches her investigating, he agrees to help her. Nobody believes her about the Whisperer still and she also doesn’t think the werewolf is the threat everyone says it is. She’s desperate for help but no one is listening and even though her family is getting everything they’ve wanted, everything feels wrong and it’s all on Winnie to fix.

My review

This series is so different from most other books around at the moment, it’s such an interesting world. This book is a little more fast paced than the first and I really like how Winnie’s character is developing. I did figure out two pretty major plot points fairly early and waiting for Winnie to catch up was kind of frustrating but it did mean it ended on a great cliff-hanger and I’m excited for the next book! I can’t wait to finally learn what really happened with her dad and what’s really going on in the forest, as it’s the final book in the series.
