The Mountain is You – Brianna Wiest

My 67th read of last year was The Mountain is You – Brianna Wiest, I have heard a lot of people say good things about this book and I wanted to hit my non-fiction goal for the year so I decided to give it a go.

A summary attempt

This book attempts to breakdown the things standing in people’s way when they feel blocked or unable to achieve a certain goal. The metaphorical mountain is the self-sabotaging behaviours we have and the book tries to get you to think about where these behaviours stem from and the anxiety or stressor at the root of it.

My thoughts

I think that if I had more anxious tendencies, or if I had listened to this five years ago or so, this book would be quite helpful. It did a great job at asking you to break down what you are anxious about, where does that fear come from and why. Then examining how it could be holding you back from what you want to achieve. Having worked on a lot of my own self sabotaging behaviour just by myself, I can see how this might have been a useful roadmap in the beginning.

Essentially, this book is about how to get out of your own way and get out of your own head.
