The 4th book I read this year was Attention Seeker by Darcy Michael. Posed as a guide to thriving with ADHD, Darcy is a tiktoker and comedian who I’ve followed since 2020. He shares funny stories about his life with his husband, daughter and Yuma dog, as well anecdotes about his life with ADHD.
A vague summary
This book follows different stand-out moments from Darcy’s life, framed in how they were snap-shots of ADHD appearing long before his diagnosis. From his childhood, to his coming out story, to his long comedy career and almost retirement until Tiktok came along.
My thoughts
This book was enjoyable, there was loads I didn’t know about Darcy’s career before Tiktok and it was interesting to hear about his chaotic life, before and after his diagnoses. I think there were a few too many moments where he interrupts the narrative to do a funny bit, that started to get frustrating but like… its a biographical piece by a comedian so somewhat to be expected.
I did like how it went from the funny story and framed it within an ADHD symptom and related to how it might affect the person reading.
It’s a short, fast paced read, optimised for an ADHD reader, I definitely think there’s a lot people could find relatable.
