If you love a book nerd, here are some simple ways to keep them alive and show them some love.
1. Bring them snacks and warm drinks
As someone who has lain in a dark room, without eating or drinking for 10 hours straight due to a good book (thanks Zodiac Academy), I would have found this extremely helpful.
2. Listen about their latest obsession
You are not required to care, you are just required to listen and nod. It’s a small thing but it’ll keep your nerd happy.
3. Don’t be moody when they bring new books home
I’m sorry, for what reason would you not want a straight up library in your home?! Seriously though, if you make someone feel shitty for a hobby they love, you can fuck off.
4. Do be the voice of reason, however,
The little book dragon may sometimes need help remembering this shit ain’t cheap. Just don’t be horrible about it.
5. Reading time is quiet time
Interrupting your book nerd is a sure fire way to piss them off.
6. Book nerd gifts will get you far
Especially if it’s related to a book they like. Book merch is elite and Etsy has been very bad for my bank balance.
7. Don’t be judgey
Who cares if they are reading tentacle smut? Keep your opinions to yourself.
8. Find a way to parallel play alongside them
If you want to hang out but aren’t into reading, find a hobby you can do beside them. Sometimes it’s nice to have company in the vicinity of you, even without interaction.
9. Love and respect their books
Now, I’m not too precious with my books unless they are special editions but if you damage my books, that’s a whole different story. My trust in you is broken forever.
10. Make sure they sleep
As someone who has seen dawn on too many occasions, someone popping up to remind me I am an adult with work in the morning, would have been very helpful! Self restraint goes bye bye in the face of a good story.
