The 40th book I read this year was Twisted Lies, the fourth book in the Twisted Series, by Ana Huang.
Here’s the review for book 1, book 2 and book 3.
Or, you can find a post I made with all the book in the Twisted series reviewed here: ‘A review of all books in the Twisted series’
The plot
This story roughly picks up after the events of book 3 and follows Stella, the fourth girl in their friendship group. Stella is left struggling to pay rent after Jules (book 3’s MC) has moved out, so she makes a deal with cold but strangely intense building owner, who happens to live on the floor above. She waters his plants, in exchange for cheaper rent. Stella is an influencer, on the cusp of making a biggest deal yet when her old stalker re-emerges. Christian is not only a real estate mogul but owns a successful security company, so he takes personal offence when he finds Stella having a panic attack after a new note from her stalker arrives and decides to help her. As they investigate the stalker they grow closer but Stella can’t help but feel the walls Christian has put around himself. When the stalker graduates to breaking in, Christian moves Stella into his own apartment. Everything is going great until Stella discovers that Christian’s interest in her predates when she and Jules moved in.
My thoughts
Umm this is the only out of the series that missed the mark for me. The power dynamic was just… dodgy. Christian is borderline controlling. His obsession with Stella from before is icky. I found Stella to be a bit too wishy washy. It was enjoyable enough but definitely paled compared to the rest of the series.
