For those who are new, I have had an idea for a book since forever, it’s all mapped out, I just need to bloody write it.
At the start of last year I decided to try doing a little writing challenge, which was going really well until it wasn’t… I burnt the fuck out. I work full time, run this blog, a podcast, exercise, have a partner and somehow also see my friends.
I just don’t know how to find the time.
And, because I work in marketing, I am blessed with having a job in which I get to be creative and for which I am doing some kind of writing, in one form or another, almost every day. So creatively, there aren’t many spoons left sometimes.
This year I was also on my way to passing my driving test (which I did!) and I was made redundant.
Basically, it’s been a busy fucking year and I haven’t written since March. To be honest, I haven’t really felt like it.
So those are my current blockers: time and desire to write.
What is my solution for 2024?
- Get back into the routine of bulk scheduling this blog, so it doesn’t take up the few evenings that are free.
- Do more creative things that I don’t view as a kind of ‘work’, like I do with this blog and the podcast.
- The writing goal for 2024 is just to write in my story once a week, there is no word count, or time goal. I just need to fucking do it. I have the kind of mind that once I am doing, it’s easier to keep doing.
So yeah, that is where we are at, you would think that since it’s been my longest serving dream to be a published author, I would find the time or find a way but I honestly never want writing to become something I hate, which it would have been if I had forced it last year.
We’ll see how it goes!
Here are the extracts from my ‘big idea’ that I have already posted:
Scene when she wakes up after the big opening scene
Random scene between my MC’s (also my favourite scene I’ve written so far)
Second random scene, with a little bit of the ‘who hurt you trope’ with a twist
Or, you can find my ‘Prompt Project’ posts, where I write a random little story based off a writing prompt.
