Apprentice to the Villain, the second book in the Assistant to the Villain series by Hannah Nicole Maehrer was the 8th book I read this year.

A vague summary
This book opens with a daring rescue of the villain from the King’s clutches but in doing so, Evie has to pretend to be dead which nearly breaks the villain… because she’s such a useful assistant of course… they leave determined to foil the King’s plan to fulfil the story of Rennedawn, which is somehow tied to Evie’s mother. Suddenly Evie can also see the Villain’s magic, which is acting strangely as magic fades from the land. They go to visit the Cave of Stars, where one of the world creators still resides, they visit Becky’s home and we get some more of her backstory and Evie and the villain’s relationship becomes something more, even though both of them think it might be a bad idea.
My thoughts
Ummmm I didn’t expect a series like this to contain some of the most romantic piningggg that I’ve ever read, the villain is so gone over Evie and watching him try to fight is both hilarious and frustrating. The ending where we figure out something about the prophecy and how it ties to Evie is SO GOOD. I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this series as much as I have. It’s funny, it’s romantic, it’s got loads of action and found family. I’ve really enjoyed it so far.
