She’s a Keeper

My 24th book of the year was She’s a Keeper by Ali.k.Mulford, the first book in the Prickle Island Zoo series.

Ali K Mulford is the romance books pen name for the author of one of my favourite fantasy series’: The Five Crowns of Okrith, so I won’t lie, I’m pre-disposed to love anything she writes because I love them as author and all her books.

A brief summary

Prickle Island zoo is home to London family for most of the year, until summer, when all the tourists and rich families flood the island. Lark has gotten used to the temporary relationships she has with friends and the people she dates because of the seasonal nature of the island and she’s fine with it. Lark likes her rigid schedule and gives her all to her family and their zoo. So she’s extremely pissed off when, instead of their usual incompetent college kids, she gets an incredibly attractive and frustratingly competent volunteer. She’s bi, in theory, but has never actually found a man attractive until she meets easy-going Kiwi, Logan Anderson. He accidentally turns her entire world on edge and both of them try to fight their instant attraction to one another. Logan’s getting over a heartbreak and Lark has always kept her heart off limit. Both of them have obligations to their families, so it’ll never work, or so Lark tells herself…

My thoughts

Predictably, I loved this book. It’s funny, sweet, quirky, full of diversity and fun animal scenes and facts. The third act miscommunication, which is a staple of the genre, isn’t stupid and caused by two adults simply not having a fucking conversation, as it is in most books. I have zero complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish.
