Year goals, a six month check in

So, I did a post about my goals for the year: reading, writing and life related and I thought, why not have a little moment to reflect half way through the year (seriously though, is time even real?).

These were my goals:

  • Pass my driving test
  • Pay off remaining debts (younger me was stupid)
  • Save up enough to be in the position to move out/ actually move out
  • Travel to Venice or Florence
  • Hit between 500-1000 followers on Tiktok and maybe Instagram
  • Read 50 physical books, with maybe a total of 100 including audio
  • Update this blog two-three times a week year round
  • Take my podcast further and hopefully start to earn money from the cool content we make
  • Finally, finally have a finished first draft of my WIP story

So how have I done so far?

  1. Passed in April! This was on my second test but I did it! I’ve been loving every second of driving since then.
  2. Mmm not doing as well as I would like, driving lessons continuing through to April, plus meeting someone (dating in this day and age is not cheap), has set these plans back a bit.
  3. Yeah, saving is proving difficult… I’m hoping to get my shit together after my holiday in July.
  4. Err so I made this goal before I looked up how expensive this trip would be, this has officially been moved to 2024’s goals.
  5. Not much movement on this.
    – I’ve been making a real effort to take care of myself and break the burn out cycle, and posting regularly was one of the few balls I could drop. This blog is easy to schedule in advance because I don’t have to look pretty to create it, nor do I have to spend time cutting it and adding music and filters. Now I’m driving, it might be more practical, so we’ll see what the rest of the year brings.
  6. The grand total for the year at this point is a total of 31 books, 21 of which were book-books and the rest are audio.
    – I never expected to read 100 books, but it looks like the 50 books- books is a real possibility. The point was to try to read a little more than last year and I’ve definitely done that.
  7. Success! I’ve missed this target only once in February.
-I’m so glad to have y’all here to read this blog, it makes the effort worth it.
  8. Podcast is doing well! We’re going to make serious moves soon to look into sponsorship options.
  9. This goal is looking unlikely. Unless someone can conjure me some more time in the day.
    – once again, this was a ball I could drop in an effort not to burn out. Now that I do the scheduling for this blog for the month in one day, rather than a bit each week, and I can drive, this might be another thing that becomes easier.

So yeah, I guess you could say a few of these got superseded by the sneaky underlying goal of looking after myself. I have been on this endless burnout cycle for years and I am trying to break it without losing any of the hobbies/ activities/ people that are important to me (while working full time!).

I’m hesitant to say it but in this I am doing a lot better, or, at least, I feel a lot better. The me of one year ago would find this person unrecognisable. So as half year check in’s go, I would say I’ve done pretty well.
