Two Necromancers, a Bureaucrat, and an Elf

The 33rd book I consumed this year was Two Necromancers, a Bureaucrat, and an Elf- The Unconventional Heroes series book 1 & 2 by L.G.Estrella.

A Summary attempt

Timmy is a successful necromancer but he knows the statistics around his chances of survival as a necromancer getting older and he wants better for his apprentice, Katie. When he finds out that the Council of Elders is offering pardons in exchange for services in their upcoming war, Timmy seizes the opportunity to get out of the necromancy game. The council send a bureaucrat, Gerald, to assess Timmy’s eligibility and give him his first mission: recruit other villains with the promise of pardons. The first recruit is a fire hungry, deranged elf, who agrees to join them when her attempts to kill Timmy, Katie and the bureaucrat fail. From there they go on to ‘deal’ with ancient dragon terrorising local villages and then on to fight a half demon sorcerer, whose power is growing in the mountains.

What did I think?

I loved this book, I listened to it as an audio book in the Audible included library and I was disappointed to find out that the rest of the series needs a credit each. The book has loads of fun silly elements like a race of Ninja rats who are loyal only to ten year old Katie, who is a blonde, blue eyed girl that favours pink glasses and outfits for her zombies. They make weird hybrid zombies, Timmy’s weapon of choice is a shovel and they have an inter-dimensional monster under the castle who is obsessed with cake.

If you like light-hearted fantasy, with Terry Pratchett esq humour, you will absolutely enjoy this book. It was funny and a very enjoyable listen, I definitely intend to listen to the rest.
